Roles and Tools
Team: Ben Jones, Jeff Dinsmore, Olena Khomchenko
My Role: As a UX Designer I conducted several user interviews as well as hi-fidelity wireframes, and create clickable prototypes in addition to strategic and low- hi-fidelity wire-framing. The whole team contributed to core decision making and sketches.
Tools: Sketch, InVision, Google Forms
From Fandango to PassTime
Let’s Create New Experience
The aim of this project was to create a new experience for users in the form of a tool and provides users with a new mobile app to plan their free time. We started this project doing domain research about Fandango and movie-going experience
Challenges for Our Team Casting a Wide Net
Are you a Moviegoer?
As you know, I took Fandango as a domain. Fandango is a great service that sales tickets and has great deals for users. So, I and my team focused on people that like movies, cinemas, know all the latest movies and ready to buy tickets for the premiere in the first minute of ticket sales. When I conducted several user interviews with these people and analyzed all the information, I and my team realized that we were thought too narrowly. We didn’t receive any new and thoughtful information. These rounds of user interviews just support our first thoughts: moviegoers care about popcorn taste and where is the nearest cinema.
“Cinema Regal, there are very comfortable chairs in the 2d hall, and legs can be raised, and the backrest can be aligned as conveniently. The cinema itself does not look very good, but inside it is cool!”
“We just went to the nearest cinema...”
I realized, that we need to take a step back and conduct another round of user interviews, but this time we decided to ask NON-moviegoers. We have talked to people, who are tired of planning at work, who just want to spend the weekend in silence or go hiking. And we have received a very interestingly insights!
Customer Share Their Feelings
After analyzing the results of the user interview using affinity mapping, we found three main aspects:
Let’s Tell the Story: User Journey Testing
To determine the necessary features and understand how the application should function, we decided to do some concept testing. For User Testing we created several stories that reflect our users.
Story 1: Birthday Party
When we were creating this story, we were trying to cover Planning because our users are not ready for weekend planning. They have a lot of planning at work.
Story 2: How can I help my Friend?
When we were creating this story, we were keeping in head that our users want to connect with their friends in any situation.
Story 3: How can we spend our free time?
When we were creating this situation, we were trying to cover the enjoyment aspect. Our users want to enjoy what they see and hear, at that time want to stay connected with their friends.
More Iteration
After testing the concepts, my team and I made several wireframes, options to reflect all the needs of the participants. Below are some of our wireframes.
Chatting draft wireframes
What: Quick access to friends accounts
Reason:
“I want to spend time with people I feel comfortable with!”
What: Dividing the chats into several categories
Reason:
“Communication is very important to me, sometimes I want to discuss the last party.”
Purchase draft wireframes
What: Ability to split a check
Reason:
“I’m not ready to always pay checks completely. We need to split the bill”
What: The ability to make purchases directly from the application
Reason:
“I buy tickets online, it is easier and faster. If I want a movie ticket, I use the cinemas’ website. For events, I use Meetup App.”
What next?
After several rounds of iterations as well as determining what is most important for our application, we made the final design.
Next Steps:
Create a chat- bot
Create a new feature (selection of a costume for an event or locating a friend)
